You could try the serial port and see how that goes. I actually went through with the driver and tried the FC option but no luck.

Usually a USB not recognized is more of windows issue and not a driver issue. If not, then that port got whacked, maybe from static. Why not try a system restore to retrieve the driver and put everything back into a working state! You won’t be able to post until your email address has been confirmed.
